From Cape Town to Rock N’ Run Festival in Namibia. Joe Emilio has a unique story to tell, as he mentions, he was born in Texas USA, moved to Egypt for 9 years then he moved to Cape Town, South Africa. He has been in Cape Town since 2011. Joe Emilio immediately fell in love with Cape Town and has tried to embrace the culture ever since, wanting to hold the right to call himself South African. While his mother is South African and he has the South African ID, to prove it on paper, is that really enough? This is what Joe Emilio talks about in his comedy: Becoming South African, or at least, trying to be.
In 2014 Joe Emilio was part of the Newcomer category in the Savanna Comics Choice awards, where he performed at the Soweto Theater. In 2016 Joe became the resident Master of Ceremonies and commentator for Dodgeball SA. In 2017, he was a semi-finalist in the #ShowUsYourApples Stand-up Comedy Competition at Cape Town Comedy Club. In late 2016 Joe debuted his one-man show: “Joe Ma Se BBQ”, which is a journey about Joe’s experiences in South Africa from a foreigner’s perspective. He makes fun of himself experiencing the South African culture and thus attaching a new spin on every day norms for regular South Africans.
