The versatile Velvet Motion String Trio is unique in its fresh format of violin, acoustic guitar and double bass. They attract and keep the attention of today’s media-saturated audiences through their modern approach on light-classica/s, music from the 1930’s to ’50’s, Latin tunes, songs from the musicals and some African favourites. A surprise element is their quick change to jazz trio with saxophone or vocals done by multi-instrumentalist, Heidi Bouwer.
They have a long history together and have wowed theatre audiences to critical acclaim and have added atmosphere and a touch of funky class to events ranging from art exhibitions to weddings to corporate functions.
They have also made their mark as individuals – Luke van der Merwe (guitar) is a well known face as the guitarist for Noot vir Noot, Corné Dannhauser has been the bass player for Nataniél for 13 years and Heidi Dannhauser (violin, saxophone, vocals) started off as an extra-young concert master to the Reserve South African Youth Symphony Orchestra and today boasts 25 years of theatre productions, television appearances and entertainment as actress, singer, multi-instrumentalist and recording artist.
Velvet Motion Jazz Quintet:
The fabulous Velvet Motion Jazz Quintet is the perfect answer to a classy event that will benefit from a bigger look live band. They will woo audiences with their renditions of music from the
1930’s to ’50’s, some Latin tunes and music from the musicals. They have been entertaining at corporate functions, weddings and other upmarket functions since 2001. They are not your typical Quintet due to the fact that their front person plays various instruments and is an incredible vocalist.
This amazing band is headed by performing artist extraordinaire Heidi Dannhauser, one of the finest female vocalists on the South African landscape. She started playing violin and piano before school and added saxophone later in her life. She is accompanied by well known bass player, Corné Dannhauser, on electric and double bass, veteran and virtuoso on the jazz guitar, Luke van der Merwe, probably the most used drummer in the country, Vinnie Henrico and keyboard master and Director of Campus of the Performing Arts (COPA Pretoria), David Jooste. The Velvet Motion Jazz Quintet has impressed people in the know like the world famous jazz pianist and educator, Darius Brubeck. They will surely do the same for you!
