Warongx comes all the way from the United States of Khayelitsha, comes the truly unique Afro-rock act that had the Main Stage of Up the Creek roaring in 2020.
Spearheaded by the one-of-a-kind frontman Ongx Mona and flanked by the founder of the Khayelitsha Music Academy, Wandile Zintwana, this act has spread like wildfire through the South African music scene with their groovy songs and contagious onstage presence.
Ongx Mona and his lifelong friend Wandile (Wara) Zintwana have seen a gap in the rock market – a gap only a truly African rock band could fill. They started Warongx as a two-piece acoustic act in the heart of Khayelitsha, a massive township on the outskirts of Cape Town. After a few successful shows and frequent call-backs, the duo expanded their act to include Khayalethu Njikelana on drums and Mpho Mantyi on the keyboard.
As a four-piece, Warongx have taken on a national tour and performed on the main stages of RevAfrica in East London and Misty Waters Festival in Mpumalanga, receiving rave reviews as they went along.
The band have raked in recording opportunities throughout 2019 and are set to release their debut album in 2021.
